Being one of the largest reservoirs in the São Paulo metropolitan region, the Billings Dam implemented in 2020 the first R&D project for floating solar power plants in a dam in the country with an installed capacity of 100 kWp.

The pilot project of the Metropolitan Water and Energy Company (Emae) was developed by KWP Energia company and implemented by Sunlution. Based on the excellent results, Emae opened, in October 2020, a public call to attract investors for the construction of new floating solar plants at the site, reaching up to 90 MWp at the Billings Dam.
